After months of indie action and eliminations, WWE has officially set the date and location for the
first-ever WWE ID Championship finals — and it’s going down
August 1st during
SummerSlam weekend in Rutherford, New Jersey.
The
WWE ID Twitter account made the major announcement on July 9, confirming that the finals will be held at
GCW’s The ID Showcase, bringing the partnership between WWE and the independent scene full circle.
“The first WWE ID Champions will be determined on August 1st during #SummerSlam weekend in Rutherford, NJ when @GCWrestling_ presents The ID Showcase!” the announcement read.
The
Women’s ID Championship will be decided in a
Triple Threat Match featuring three breakout stars:
Kylie Rae vs. Zara Zakher vs. Zayda Steel. All three women have battled through the round-robin tournament across various indie shows, and now one of them will walk out with WWE gold. As for the
Men’s ID Championship, the final will be a
singles match — but the competitors aren’t locked in just yet. That decision will be made on
July 19, when
House Of Champions hosts another installment of
The ID Showcase in Orlando, Florida. The ID initiative has created a brand-new path for unsigned indie stars to get noticed by WWE, and the payoff is coming during one of the biggest weekends of the year.
